Sports

It is vitally important for our young people to be actively engaged in regular sporting activities. Not only does their physical and mental health benefit, research has also indicated that students who participate regularly in sporting pursuits achieve better academic results.

Students from Prep to Year 3 are involved in physical and sporting activities that develop fundamental motor skills with an emphasis on participation. This involves opportunities in a variety of sports: including tennis, football and athletics. Students in Year 4 and Year 5 take part in progressively more competitive games and physical activities that build into complex games. annual Inter-House carnivals (Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country). Those students who excel in the house events are then selected to represent the College in the Inter-School carnivals in all three sports.

Representative Pathways

We encourage our students to work towards selection in representative sporting teams. Trinity is a member of the Hinterland District Sports Association. The first step in representative sport selection is into a Hinterland team. Talented athletes then progress by representing the South Coast Region at State Championships. We have had many students over the years gain state and national selection in a wide range of sports, and this should be the goal for all aspiring or excelling athletes at Trinity Lutheran College.

Other opportunities include swimming (Learn to Swim and the Trinity Aquatic Club) and the Trinity Running Club. Through the refinement of skill and technique, these groups provide the foundation and pathway for future development within swimming and running – based sports.

If you have any questions about sport at Trinity, please feel free to contact our Director of Sport and Activities (Prep to Year 12), Mr David Howells at david.howells@tlc.qld.edu.au or on 07 5556 8200.
