The International Baccalaureate PYP

Founded in 1968, the International Baccalaureate® (IB) is a non-profit educational foundation offering four highly respected programmes of international education that develop the intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills needed to live, learn and work in a rapidly globalizing world. Schools must be authorized, by the IB organization, to offer any of the programmes.

Trinity is one of only three schools on the Gold Coast which offer the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP). This programme is a curriculum framework designed for students aged 3 to 12. It prepares students for the intellectual challenges of further education and their future careers, focusing on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside. Students benefit from this program by:

  • being encouraged to think independently and drive their own learning
  • becoming more culturally aware, through the development of a second language
  • being able to engage with people in an increasingly globalized, rapidly changing world.

As a leading private school Gold Coast wide offering the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP), we plan our educational program under the following six transdisciplinary themes of global significance which provide the framework around which for exploration and study:

  1. Who we are.
  2. Where we are in place and time.
  3. How we express ourselves.
  4. How the world works.
  5. How we organize ourselves.
  6. Sharing the planet.

These themes are selected for their relevance to the real world. They are described as transdisciplinary because they focus on issues that go across subject areas.

The transdisciplinary themes help our teachers to develop a programme of inquiry. Our teachers work together to develop investigations into important ideas, which require a substantial and high level of involvement on the part of students.
