On Wednesday 26 October, Year 11 & 12 music students were extremely lucky to spend the day with Emmy nominated composer, Mark McDuff in his own studio in Brisbane. Mark was able to share his 25 years of experience in film composing, television and advertising music, as well as animation music, giving the students a unique behind the scenes look at the composing and sound recording industry. In his state of the art recording studio, students were given a close up view of the recording and sound editing process, along with the art of composition. Year 12 music student, Jacob Muir had the opportunity to record his own composition live in the studio and then have Mark demonstrate how effects and additional instrumental parts can be added in the studio. The students were both inspired and amazed by Mark's exceptional creativity and breadth of work that they were fortunate enough to experience in the studio. Mark is a highly respected composer and has become known for his work on the Croc Hunter TV series and movies, Sesame Street, and many advertising campaigns including the Channel 9 "love this city". He has also collaborated, composed and produced for many well-known Australian artists.
We thank Mark sincerely for opening his studio to us and sharing a day with our talented senior musicians. Trinity is proud to offer many experiences throughout the academic and co-curricular arts programs where students can be inspired by industry professionals who are so willing to share their advice and experience with the next generation.
