← Summer Reading Clubs

We recommend Summer Reading Clubs as one way to keep your child reading during the holidays for both leisure and to maintain reading engagement and achievement, thus avoiding the “summer slide”.

As the holidays approach, we want to encourage all of our students to continue reading during the holidays. Our state and public libraries run Summer Reading Club programs each year. They provide some great incentives. Visits to the local libraries to join or borrow are free, however it is possible to participate without necessarily visiting the library by going online and reading from your own personal collection. The Gold Coast City council has partnered with Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary this year to encourage Summer Reading and Scholastic is also providing opportunities.

The Cotlew Campus encourages participation in Summer Reading Clubs as a fun family activity.

The Ashmore Road campus library further supports Australian Summer Reading Club by inviting students to set a holiday reading target and borrow sufficient books from the college for the holiday period to allow them to meet their target. Parent permission is required to borrow over the holidays and applications are available from the Ashmore Campus Library Circulation Desk from the beginning of November. Books borrowed over the holidays are due to be returned in the first week of school 2017.

As the year draws to an end we ask that all current and overdue loans are returned. It is timely to remind parents and students that the costs of overdue/lost books at the end of the year are charged to student accounts.
