← Reader’s Cup Competition

In the last two weeks of term, a group of our most enthusiastic readers participated in the Readers’ Cup. This is an annual competition that challenges students to read, in detail, five novels before competing in a trivia-like competition. These novels are selected by local teacher-librarians and are considered to be of high quality and at a challenging level for the age groups. The following books have been selected for the Gold Coast regional competition and come as recommended holiday reading:

For Years 5 and 6:

Mapmaker Chronicles #1: Race to the end of the world – A. L. Tait
Star of Deltora #1 : Shadows of the Master – Emily Rodda
Because of mr. ter-rupt – Rob Buyea
Withering – by sea – Judith Rosell
Song for a Scarlet Runner – Julie Hunt

For Years 7 and 8:

The Honest Truth – Dan Gemeinhart
The Maze Runner – James Dashner
Out of my mind – Sharon M. Draper
The Ratcatcher’s Daughter – Pamela Rushby
The Cat on the Wall – Deborah Ellis

The winning team from the Gold Coast region will compete in the State competition to be held later this year. We know both of our teams will have a great time and commend them for their hard work so far.

Mrs Leesa Merifield, Head of Learning (Information Literacy & Middle Years Academic Progression) and Mrs Kym Oestreich, Teacher Librarian, Early & Junior Years
