‘National Simultaneous Storytime’ ( 25 May ) is an annual initiative of the Australian Library and Information Association. The event aims to promote reading, literacy and the value and fun of books. On the Cotlew Street campus, students were able to share, read, view and respond with some fun activity to this year's book, “I Got this Hat” by Jol and Kate Temple, with their teachers, their buddies or in the library. Sport and library came together for Year 3 with a visit by Titans players Kane Elgery, Greg Lelesiauio and Max King who read the book to them in the library. This extra exciting opportunity was initiated by Mrs Richards (PE teacher.)
The Children’s Book Council announced the notables and shortlist for ‘Book of the Year’ on 20 May. In the coming months we will explore these significant books by Australian authors and illustrators as we await the announcement of the winners on 19 August. We will again join in the fun to celebrate reading and wonderful Australian literature for children during Book Week.
