← Learning spaces in the Junior School

This year we have started our journey to revitalise the learning spaces in the Junior School. Our purpose and vision came from the review of our teaching and learning practices across the whole college. We are designing our learning spaces to touch the heart, engage the head and extend the hand.

The journey started in Prep this year as we transformed the existing spaces into engaging and flexible learning environments. Students and teachers have embraced the philosophy of choice, independence and engagement within these new learning environments. Just recently we have also transformed the Year 5 classrooms. Next year, we will continue our plan across all year levels. There are key characteristics of our classroom that are very important in the redesign. These are:

  • focusing on the relationships between the students and the teacher
  • creating an intellectually challenging space; providing a space for children to be curious and to wonder about their learning
  • creating a collaborative environment and learning culture
  • developing a flexible environment which honours the aesthetics of the space

If you would like to learn more about the why and how of our new learning spaces and our vision for the whole college, please come along to the next ‘Coffee and Chat’ on Wednesday 10 August at 2.00 pm or 7.00 pm in the Cotlew Street campus library.
