The Wonderful Wizard of Oz!

Today was definitely no ordinary assembly at our Middle and Senior Years campus. Our performing arts staff officially launched Trinity’s 2017 production of The Wizard of Oz to the school community. Staff and students were delighted by the arrival of Dorothy (sporting some stunning sparkly red disco shoes) and her merry band of friends, Scarecrow, Tinman and Lion.

The Wicked Witch made a grand entrance, NOT in a flash of smoke, NOT from the rafters on a broomstick BUT on the back of a Harley Davidson motorcycle!!!!! This of course caused shrieks of laughter. The Wicked Witch was however no match for the Good Witch who bravely defeated the powers of evil and restored every character’s missing bits and pieces.

Led by Director of Arts, Ms Cherie Smith, as Dorothy, the artistic team behind the musical dressed in their favourite Oz characters and took the audience on a magical journey to find Dorothy’s dog Toto, carried away in a twister.

The cast included; Mr Simon Petty as The Scarecrow, who had the audience in fits of laughter with his gorgeous southern accent, Mrs Nerida Humm, who as key choreographer was cast against type as the Tinman, Mrs Cheryl Breen as the timid and pitiful Lion and Mrs Jocelyn Moore-Carter who was hilarious as the Good Witch, Glinda and who saved the day with her amazing martial arts moves, killing Wicked Witch, Mrs Tanya Dobson despite the fact that she owned a Harley!

With a special cameo performance by Head of Year 8 Mr Jason Breese as the much loved and lost Toto, the audience was treated to a performance that will be remembered for a very long time – especially as it was captured on video. Stay tuned for the full video clip and highlight version which will be soon released on Facebook for everyone to enjoy. In the meantime enjoy all the awesome photographs taken by past student Clay Cox.

Tickets to this wonderful production of The Wizard of Oz, showing at the Gold Coast Arts Centre on the 6 August 2017 at 2pm and 7.30pm, are now on sale and can be purchased via the link
