Rowing Success at the South QLD Rowing Championships!

What an exciting weekend for Trinity rowers at the South QLD Rowing Championships. Congratulations to all rowers who have participated and shown massive courage and improvement throughout the season. Special congratulations to our Year 8 Boy’s Quad (Lucas Cherrier, Matt Kerr, Travis Farmer, Daniel Lind, cox: Jasha Jenkins) who remained unbeaten in the quad for 2017 rowing season. Furthermore, in a tight race Travis Farmer and Daniel Lind won the gold medal in the Year 8 double. Our new rowers from Year 7, Ermin Gucic and Charlie Blinko have had an outstanding season, with both boys medalling in the boys Under 14 single; Ermin winning gold and Charlie claiming bronze.

Our senior girl’s rowers did exceptionally well, with Lilian Goldie and Matilda Amor claiming 2nd place in the Year 11 Double and 3rd place in the Open Pair (sweep). Beyond this, the girls Open Coxed Quad (Michelle Gray, Amelia Maxwell, Lilian Goldie, Matilda Amor and cox: Cassandra Duncan) claimed a silver medal against strong and quality opposition. The Year 11 Boys Double (Lachlan Swan and Ben Sims) have shown consistent improvement throughout the Championship season, and in a close battle to the finish line won a silver medal. Nick Lockhart, competed in a nail biting Open Single Final and won a silver medal. Nick also won a bronze medal together with his double partner David Morton; whilst the Year 12 boys won a silver medal in the Open Quad (Max Way, Kenneth Carter, David Morton, Nick Lockhart cox Cassandra Duncan). Our Year 11 boys and Year 12 boys have joined the force in an eight and won a Bronze medal (Graeme Christopher, Liam Pert, Kenneth Karter, Max Way, Lachlan Swan, David Morton, Nick Lockhart, Ben Sims, Cox: Max Williams). In total, Trinity competed in 22 events and medalled in 12 respectively. Rowing is an endurance sport and winning comes from hard training; a great deal of commitment and hard work is needed to pick up the medals. These quality results reflect positively on the work ethic and dedication of the rowers, the coaching staff and the Rowing Supporters Group. We look forward to the state championships at the end of the term.
