Participation, Passion and Performance - Trinity's 2018 Inter-House Cross Country Carnival

The end of Term 1 signals the annual running of the Inter–House Cross Country Carnival. The day was once again divided into two separate carnivals, with the 9 to 12 years students competing in the morning and the 13 years to Open students competing in the afternoon. The standard across both carnivals was high, and the hunger for house points was very evident. All students (and a couple of able staff members) competed on the ‘campus loop course’, which provided a great opportunity for spectators to absorb the battles that were unfolding on the track. The course deliberately blended fast oval running, with sharp, short hills to effectively test all runners. Every student who toed the start line and competed at least one lap earned valuable house points, whilst those who showcased their skill and tenacity and placed in the top 10 contributed valuable additional points.

At the end of the day, the carnival was a resounding success; with excellent student attendance, genuine and committed participation, overt and passionate house spirit and great athletic performances. Congratulations to Mackenzie (Junior Years), Stephan (Middle Years) and Mackenzie (Senior Years) who took out the top team prizes on the day. Individually, congratulations to those students who placed in top three within their respective age groups to claim age champion trophies and medals, along with those students who placed in the top 10, as they will wear the Trinity singlet at the upcoming APS Cross Country Championships. With the calibre of results witnessed on the day, it is hoped that a top 4 finish at the APS carnival is distinctly possible; especially considering the strong training attendance from our keen athletes.

Last but definitely not least, a big thank you to Lea and P&F volunteers who manned the canteen for the entire day; to Kevin and the grounds staff for their considerable devotion of time and energy in setting up and packing up the carnival and to the Trinity teaching staff who performed various, valuable jobs on the day to ensure the smooth running of the 2018 inter–house carnival. Our sights now move to the inter–house athletics carnival that will take place later this term.
