On Wednesday afternoon the 8 May, over 50 mothers and grandmothers gathered at our Early Learning Centre for a Mother’s Day celebration. In preparation for this event, the children had been very busy baking special treats to share with their mothers and grandmothers and their efforts of coconut drops, chocolate balls, fairy bread and scrolls were soon eaten and appreciated.
The children had also been busy planning and making special gifts to give to their mothers. The Junior Kindergarten children took time to plant and water seeds in a decorated pot and their care was rewarded with all seeds having sprouted prior to the day. Kindergarten One painted original designs and patterns onto special mugs and these were wrapped to present to their mothers. Kindergarten Two children thoughtfully considered their mothers and drew a beautiful portrait of Mum that was placed in a frame and displayed in the room, before being taken home. The joy of making gifts, thinking of others and presenting them to someone else is an important learning for young children.
The afternoon offered an opportunity for families to undertake some activities together, such as threading bracelets, making cards, moulding with various colours of playdough and painting. Families then socialised and enjoyed the scrumptious afternoon tea provided by the children.
We thank all the families, children and staff for participating in this wonderful afternoon of celebrating and honouring motherhood.
