A Night at the Oscars!

Ladies and Gentlemen, Welcome to the Oscars! What an unbelievable journey it has been. 400 incredibly dedicated and talented students invited their audience on an adventure to the most loved and memorable Hollywood moments through the ages on Friday 9 August at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre. The planning phase commenced over 18 months ago, when we started brainstorming an original show, written specifically with the talent of our incredible students and our exceptional staff in mind. The show evolved into a thrilling Oscars night, complete with our very own James Bond film and stunt sequences, exciting aerialists, spectacular dance sequences, stunning vocal performances, exceptional musicians and special guest stars, all jam-packed into a 2-hour arena spectacular!! “One Night Only” marked our first ever arena show with the largest number of tickets ever sold (1800) for a Trinity performance, along with the biggest cast ever staged.

There is no doubt that this unique and stunning show is the result of the collective work, passion and support from the entire Trinity community. The Performing Arts Parent Support Group have been with us at every phase of the rehearsal process and we thank them from the bottom of our hearts for investing so much time and support for the benefit of every child in Performing Arts at Trinity. We also thank every single cast member for sharing their truly amazing talent, hard work and energy that they each individually brought to the production. The children worked tirelessly, especially in the lead up to the show working mostly 6 or 7 days a week for 4 weeks straight. They were mesmerising on that stage and performed as true professionals and we could not be prouder of these hard working, dedicated and talented children. They left nothing in the tank and gave it everything they had. They bought us to tears on many occasions, and we should all be proud that we work in a school where children are so motivated to give so much time voluntarily and be such enormous risk takers to step into a very overwhelming arena, and deliver with such confidence in themselves and pride in their school in front of thousands of people. Please take the time to congratulate the 400 stars of our show!!!

An event of this magnitude would simply not be possible without the outstanding commitment from the most amazing team of dedicated teachers and industry professionals, who have all united in the true Trinity spirit to create this once in a lifetime experience for our students. Finally, there are no words to truly express my gratitude to the creative team that I have worked so closely with on every phase of the production. The artistic team of exceptionally dedicated performing arts staff and crew have bought the vision of this show to life with spectacular energy and creativity, surpassing all expectations.

A big thank you to our Principal, Dr Wong, who is unwavering in her support of our very large scale, often crazy ideas. She is always encouraging, supportive and most importantly believes in us when we dream up these massive shows, having faith in our entire team to deliver what we did. Without her support, none of this would have been possible.

We also thank the array of teachers who assisted in various capacities backstage and at rehearsals and finally the 1800 members of the Trinity community who supported the Performing Arts cast and crew and attended the show.

So please give a standing ovation to the magnificent cast and crew for their thoroughly exhilarating journey to the 2019 Trinity Oscars.
