A little challenge brings out the best in us - 2018 Year 10 Camp

Prior to camp there is always a sense of trepidation, excitement and a little fear of the unknown amongst the students. Since middle school, the tales of Grade 10 camp have been told. It is said that the camp is one of the best parts of schooling at Trinity, where a year level truly becomes whole, through facing challenges together and learning the true strength that each individual has. This was indeed the case again this year.

The different camp programs offered students the opportunity to either: white-water canoeing on the Clarence and hike, Mountain bike around the Scenic Rim and hike; or the “best of all” program which also included a bit of everything, as well as initiative and high rope activities. Each program challenged the students, providing opportunities to develop resilience, leadership, confidence and determination. Having the opportunity to share exciting adventures and challenges together has ensured that strong bonds have been made between our students. They have learnt that the best experiences in life come with hard work and effort.

Camp Reflections –

Camp was filled with tough challenges and new friendships. Overall, this camp taught me how to pull through even though I struggled a LOT and wanted to just be in bed and not be waking up at approximately 5:00am (which of course is 4:00am on the Gold Coast). But despite some difficulties, I managed to complete all the challenges, especially hiking which was the bane of my existence, until I saw how jaw-dropping the magnificent view was, at some points the mountains began to look like they were from paintings. I knew it was real though since my legs were like jelly once we reached each camp site. I would totally recommend this camp for the next grade 10s, it was a great experience. - Alyssa Berdar

The challenge of being in the cycling group was definitely the hills and trying to not get off of your bike. I also learned that almost no matter how hard a challenge was I could still overcome it by just not giving up. The fact that we had also cooked our own dinner every night was really cool, especially the pizza wraps we had made on the second night and bragging over who was best cooked and didn't burn them. - Patrick Martin

My first camp experience at Trinity was a very positive beginning. During camp I definitely interacted more with other people in my grade which was a great experience and friendship builder. Social skills were obtained, but general life skills were also learnt. These skills have definitely been added into my everyday life. Overall it was a very great experience during both the paddling and hiking; definitely would recommend to many others. – Sh’Khinah Sidney
