School camps build confidence, ignite creativity and problem-solving,
stimulate a sense of adventure, encourage social interaction and
team-building, and promote independence, and the student reflections of our 2019 Year 7 Camp Goodenough experience validate this.
Student Reflections
I was not expecting camp to be so much fun, especially as my birthday fell during our time away. There was an activity called Team Obstacle where everyone was roped together, and the group then had to navigate through an obstacle course. We also did the course without being harnessed together which was much easier. This activity taught it us that teamwork can be difficult but is also a skill we need and if we could successfully navigate the course tied together, we could do anything! The Giant swing was my camp highlight. We were pulled up to a height we were comfortable with and then released to swing down. The Leap of Faith was the most daunting activity. We had to jump off a platform on a pole whilst attempting to reach the floating trapeze in the air. Many daredevils made it all the way up to 12m pole while others jumped from lower platforms, but we all faced our fears. Camp was a good experience, a rollercoaster with highs and lows that ended on a high.

Camp was fun but it was also really challenging. Many people went outside their comfort zones in the high activities, such as the Leap of Faith, High Ropes, Giants Playground and Giant Swing. Evening activities included a talent show, a trivia night and a games evening, which everyone enjoyed! A group who sang the Lion King won the talent show. We also celebrated Georgia’s birthday on camp with a cake and a lot of singing! My favourite activities were the Giant Swing, Crate Stack, Team Pursuits and Billy Carts. Overall it was a great time and I wish we could do it all again. I think we are all looking forward to next year!

I enjoyed my experience at Camp Goodenough, and the memories will be filed in Top Chart Topics 2019. Either that or Best Stories for Sleepovers. The staff were fantastic and every day the camp instructors gave adrenaline junkies like me their next hit. I loved how they let us do things individually and as a team. We all got opportunities to step outside our comfort zones and every instructor was friendly, and ready for a laugh. Their support and encouragement of even the most anxious students was amazing to witness. My personal favourites were Billy Carts, Giants Playground (or maybe Giant Swing) and the Leap of Faith. I got chills after doing the 12m leap. I will never forget the time I had at Camp Goodenough.

I really enjoyed the time spent at Camp Goodenough with my friends. It was engaging, fun and pushed us out of our comfort zones, with many new experiences to enjoy. One of the many highlights was that each activity was challenging, and we had to use our personal strengths, but also work as a team to complete them. I also enjoyed spending time with my peers and teachers outside of school. I was able to relate more to my teachers and better understand the vulnerabilities and strengths of my peers. I liked the cabin I was placed in. The mix of people was great because I got to know people outside my normal friendship group. The activities were fun and interesting, and I know everyone had fun. I’m afraid of heights and didn’t enjoy those activities that involved heights as the stress and fear was really draining. I am glad that I pushed myself but having so many height-based activities was a challenge. Camp Goodenough was a great experience for all of us to go through and we all learnt great life lessons along the way.

After arriving, we were assigned our cabins and unpacked right away. We then started our first activity, with my group doing the Team Pursuit which required lots of courage and teamwork. The next day, was Billy Carts, Crate Stack and Giant Swing. The Crate stack was awesome and required lots of focus and balance. I was first up for the Giant Swing and as we continued to take turns, several students started to panic. Everyone did have a turn with encouragement from the team, and we were all glad to have pushed ourselves. On Wednesday, we did Team Obstacle, Giant’s Playground and the High Ropes course. I am nervous of heights, so the high ropes course was overwhelming and had me near tears, but I pushed through and managed to complete the hard course. We did the Leap of Faith on our final day. I thought I could do the 9 metre pole but although I jumped, I unfortunately didn’t manage to grab the bar. I was however successful on the 5 metre pole.
Thank you, teachers, for making my first camp at Trinity AMAZING!
