The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program culminates in the Junior Years with the Year 5 Exhibition, a celebration of the Year 5s' learning journey. The exhibition is a significant culminating event in the journey of our students as it integrates the essential elements of the PYP and provides an opportunity for students to demonstrate the attributes of the learner profile with the whole school community.
This year our Year 5 students collaboratively inquired into the Transdisciplinary Theme of ‘How we organise ourselves’ where the focus was on the Global Goals for sustainable development. The investigation of the global goals prompted students to think about issues they could investigate, felt passionate about, and wanted to learn more about.
Topics varied from gender equality to life below water, animal cruelty to health, to name just a few. Students followed the inquiry cycle, choosing from three central ideas to drive their inquiries. They developed and demonstrated learner profiles, transdisciplinary skills and attitudes, as well as leadership skills they learnt at the beginning of the school year.
Students shared their knowledge with other students, parents and friends through colourful displays, passing on information about their passions and the actions needed to address these issues. A truly fitting way to end an incredible Junior Years journey.
